Char Kueh (Fried Turnip Cake)

Did the title of this post catch your attention? If so, I am almost certain that like me, you are missing this childhood favorite and was trying to find a recipe to satisfy your cravings.

Well, fear not! I’ve done the recipe testing for you. The version of  Char Kueh I am making is the Kuching styled version. I find that it is more solid and chewy in comparison to the ones you find in Singapore or Penang. We also don’t include spring onions or beansprouts when frying it. Most of the recipes I found was more closely aligned to this style. So, whats a Kuchingnite who is overseas supposed to do? Make my own of course!

Snowskin Mooncake

Hi everyone! Woops, it has been awhile. Work has gotten so so busy I simply cannot find to finish all the work I am meant to do. 90% of the time I feel like lying down on my office floor to do this –> . I don’t think it is quite appropriate so I have refrained myself from doing so. On the up-side, Nelson is back to it’s sunny warm days so I have started walking/biking to work again. This of course means that Spring is definitely here again. Ah, the birds are chirping, Sakura trees are blossoming and mooncakes start to appear in the Chinese shops signifying that Mid-Autumn Festival is just round the corner.

I love love love mooncakes especially the snowskin types.

Sarawak Kolo Mee Recipe

I am so excited to be sharing this post with all of you today! As the title states, I am finally sharing my Kolo Mee recipe!! This is the stuff of dreams. I think it is safe to say that most Sarawakians’ abroad crave this dish, miss it to the point that you dream of it. For those of you who live in a country where you can buy decent ready made Kolo Mee, I’m jealous of your good fortune. I happen to live in a city where this is not an option. So the only way for me to satisfy my craving is to make it from scratch; starting with the noodles.

Pork and Chives Dumpling Recipe

Hello everyone! Time to take a break from the travel tales but not from Asia because…its dumpling time ! I am finally back with another recipe which, if you can’t tell, I absolutely LOVE. This recipe has seen me through exam periods and times where I can’t be bothered cooking. Best of all, you can tweak and swap ingredients to suit! Sometimes I make a cabbage, mushroom and pork version.

With this recipe I am also going to teach you how to make the wrappers. It is superbly easy to make by hand and even more so now that I have a noodle maker that also spits out dumpling wrappers. After I tried making my own wrappers, I never bought them again. It just tastes so much better when homemade cause you know…you made it, it has to be good right?
